The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, December 22 to address a full agenda of matters including an update and funding request from Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation, the consideration of bids relating to the Patterson Creek Bridge project, and discussion of County Courthouse security related matters. The meeting was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Dan Byrnes with Supervisors Tom Clark and Dennis Keatley present.
During Public Comment, District 2 Supervisor Todd Blake with the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) discussed a request for the Supervisors to consider allowing an approximate 700 feet of snow fence to be added along the County Farm which he estimated would remove approximately three-quarters of an acre out of production. The Supervisors and County Auditor Denise Beyer advised that this matter will be added to the Monday, December 29 Board of Supervisors meeting agenda for 9:10 a.m.
Executive Director Val Reinke with Allamakee County Economic Development (ACED) made note of the Black Hawk Bridge implosion in Lansing which took place Friday, December 19. Clark added that the car ferry is back in operation following the bridge implosion as of that morning, Monday, December 22, between the Wisconsin and Iowa sides of the Mississippi River at Lansing.
Reinke discussed an open house event in Waukon last week relating to the apartment construction within the Pladsen Addition in Waukon. She noted that Effigy Mounds National Monument is having several guided hikes in addition to its winter film series to begin in January. Reinke also noted that Waukon Family Chiropractic will be moving into the former JaDecc’s building. In addition, Reinke advised that Waukon Auto & Truck Sales will be moving to a location near Casey’s in Waukon from the Dick Sullivan-owned business’s current location south of Waukon, with Premiere Kubota to utilize that nearby space in addition to its current location.
Reinke also noted that the Happy Heifer Quilting Company has moved into the former Nightingale Pharmacy location at 606 Rossville Road in Waukon. She advised that the R.W. Pladsen car dealership will be opening at that business’s new location in the Pladsen Addition after the new year. Among other updates, Reinke reported that she is planning to meet with Waukon City Manager Grayson Rowlet on a weekly basis with work ongoing relating to comprehensive planning.
