John Wood

John E. Wood, 83, of Waukon passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025. Memorial services were held Friday, January 2 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in Waukon with Pastor Marshall Hahn officiating. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family.

John Earl Wood was born September 18, 1942, in Waukon, the son of Eugene and Martina (Peterson) Wood. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lansing. He attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Lansing High School May 25, 1960.

July 12, 1964, he married Juliet Meyer. They were blessed with three children from this union. They later divorced. May 28, 2004, he married Sharon (Walters) Bohland.

John was a man of the land and was a farmer at heart. He enjoyed raising beef, hogs, and milking cows. He loved to drive tractor and combine his own crops and also did some custom work. After retiring from farming, John worked at Blumenthal Lansing Company in maintenance and became a mechanic.

John was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lansing where he was active with church council, Luther League, and served as church president. He was a member of the Little Switzerland Snowmobile Club and was a 4-H leader for the Flying Farmers 4-H Club. He was presently a member at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church.

John’s hobbies included hunting, bowling, and card club. He was an avid hunter and was sure to hit his target. John had a passion for woodworking and was very meticulous at what he did. His children and grandchildren were blessed with woodworking gifts that he made for them. After retirement, he also enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially his lilies. Above all, he treasured his family, enjoying family gatherings and time together.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Waukon; three children, Becki (Duane) Estebo of Lansing, Jim (Michele) Wood of Waukon, and Amy (Jon) Hagen of Waterville; two stepchildren, Sheri (Frank) Hammond of Viroqua, WI and Trevor (Heidi) Bohland of Chippewa Falls, WI; 10 grandchildren: Josh (Danielle) Estebo, Jared (Bailey) Estebo, Jessica (Paul) Vodak, Jacob (Haley) Estebo, Brittany (Nick) Tilleraas, Taylor (Michelle) Wood, Logan Wood, Kaela (Cole) Langreck, Kortney Wood, and Nolan Hagen; six step-grandchildren: Kasey, Katie, Elizabeth and Hannah Hammond, and Tyler and Jackson Bohland; 17 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Hilda Nalley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Kenny, George, and Walter Wood.
