Effigy Mounds National Monument to begin new Golden Eagles Club

Effigy Mounds National Monument is beginning a new Golden Eagles Club as the new year gets underway. The new club will offer a weekly gathering for “mature adults” each Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Effigy Mounds Visitor Center, and each month will include a Book Club meeting to discuss various published works.

The first gathering of the Golden Eagles Club is scheduled for Thursday, January 8. Park Ranger Brian Gibbs will discuss Winter Birding in northeast Iowa. The remainder of the Golden Eagles Club schedule through the end of March is as follows:
• January 15 - BOOK CLUB. Join park rangers in a discussion of “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
• January 22 - Learn about Ho Chunk beadwork and try the craft of beading.
• January 29 - Join a park ranger for a mindfulness walk on the Yellow River Boardwalk.
• February 5 - To be determined (TBD).
• February 12 - BOOK CLUB. Join Dr. Mark Grey for a discussion of “1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus” by Charles C. Mann.
• February 19 - To be determined (TBD).
• February 26 - Join a park ranger for a mindfulness walk on the Yellow River Boardwalk.
• March 5 - To be determined (TBD).
• March 12 - BOOK CLUB. Join Dr. Mark Grey for a discussion of “1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created.”
