Mason Kerian ...
Veterans Memorial Hospital Waukon and Postville Clinics welcome Nurse Practitioner, Mason (Hermeier) Kerian, who is now seeing patients in both the Waukon and Postville Clinics. Mason is a 2017 graduate of Waukon High School and has been attending the University of Iowa in Iowa City for the last eight years as she has worked on earning her nurse practitioner doctorate.
Mason became a nurse practitioner because she saw how poor health outcomes often result from something as simple as miscommunication, a lack of trust or a missed connection between providers and their patients.
“I wanted to be the kind of provider patients feel comfortable opening up to,” explains Mason. “I think when patients feel heard and supported, health care can become really individualized and meaningful.”
Mason earned her initial nursing degree from the University of Iowa College of Nursing, then went on to earn her doctorate, focusing specifically on family medicine.
“I chose to be a family nurse practitioner because it allows me to get to know people over multiple visits and be a provider they feel comfortable reaching out to about any concerns,” Mason explains. “After seeing poor outcomes from a lack of access to primary care, I wanted to be a nurse practitioner who makes my patients feel unhurried and understood, even on the busiest days.”
Mason began seeing patients this week in the Waukon and Postville Clinics, working in each clinic two days per week.
“I want to focus on helping people enjoy their lives - whether that’s infants and children, young families in the busy seasons of life, or older adults who want to stay independent and active,” she adds. “It’s important to me to take care of patients of all ages - I welcome patients of all walks of life and want everyone to feel safe and respected.”
Laura Baxter, Waukon and Postville Clinic Director, states, “I am excited that we have the opportunity to add another additional provider to both of our clinics which will expand our access and services to our community even further to meet the growing need.”
To make an appointment to meet with Mason at the Waukon Clinic call 563-568-5530 or at the Postville Clinic, call at 563-864-7221.
