by Joshua Sharpe
The Lansing City Council convened in a regular session Monday, January 5 with Mayor Mike Verdon and council members in attendance. The agenda included ongoing support for county-level economic development and tourism initiatives, considerations for long-term arrangements for the Saturday farmers market, a pre-application for Community Catalyst building remediation in the downtown area, and an anticipated increase in the city’s operations and maintenance agreement with PeopleService.
CONSENT AGENDA
The meeting commenced with the review of the consent agenda, which encompassed the minutes from the December 15, 2025, council meeting, payment of claims, the minutes of the December 29 safety committee, and the minutes from the November 24 Library Board meeting. Mayor Verdon highlighted that several line items detailed early costs associated with the upcoming Highway 9/Main Street reconstruction, indicating that “with regard to the onset of the Highway 9 project, there are a couple of line items included in here… that total about $8,700, which should be reimbursable to us.” With no questions from the council members, the consent agenda, including the bill list featuring Highway 9-related expenditures, was approved by roll-call vote.
