Waukon bowling teams compete in North Fayette Baker Tournament, Lady Indians top four-team field and boys claim fourth-place finish

In what turned out to be their only competition of this past week, the Waukon girls and boys bowling teams each competed in the North Fayette Valley Baker Tournament in West Union Tuesday, January 20, competing against the host TigerHawks, Waterloo Columbus and Oelwein. Each team initially bowled eight Baker games to determine seeding for a bracketed tournament that included both a semifinal and final round, with the Waukon girls ending up on top of their four-team tournament field and the Waukon boys taking their competition to the brink before ending up in fourth place.
A Friday, January 23 meet at Oelwein was rescheduled to Tuesday, January 27 due to frigid weather, with that make-up date starting off this week’s schedule for the Indians. The Waukon girls will then compete in their North Central Conference Baker Tournament Wednesday, January 28 and the Waukon boys will wrap up the month of January hosting Sumner-Fredericksburg Friday, January 30.
The Waukon girls will then begin postseason tournament play Monday, February 2 at their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet in Manchester, with details of that postseason possibility printed in a shaded box elsewhere on this week’s Sports pages. The Indian boys will bowl in a Baker Tournament at Waterloo Wednesday, February 4 before hosting Charles City in a final home dual match for this season Friday, February 6.
