Supervisors consider bridge project bids, approve bid for painted pavement markings and the opening of collective bargaining for Secondary Roads workers for wages only

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, February 9 to address a full agenda of matters including the consideration of bridge replacement and bridge repair bids, discussion and consideration of opening the Secondary Roads Department Collective Bargaining Agreement and the consideration of updating the County Zoning Map. The meeting was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tom Clark with Supervisors Dan Byrnes and Dennis Keatley present.

During Public Comment, Executive Director Val Reinke with Allamakee County Economic Development (ACED) discussed recent and upcoming events within the county. Reinke made note of the Comedy Night fundraiser held in Waterville and Main Street Lansing’s Trivia Night with both events taking place over the weekend. In addition, She made note of the Effigy Mounds Film Festival and upcoming events including the ACED Board Meeting and the Lansing Bridge Replacement Project Meeting.

Reinke advised that information is forthcoming relating to the Allamakee Leadership Institute with six events anticipated to take place later this year throughout the county. She also made note of Developer Dexter Quandahl of Quandahl Custom Homes/Q4 Construction and his company’s apartment complex project located at the Pladsen Addition in south Waukon. Additionally, Reinke made note of Developer Ben Garrett of Tailwind Capital Partners, LLC relating to the twin home/duplex project in northwest Waukon at what is locally known as the Bresnahan property with the scheduling of an open house to take place soon.

Reinke advised that District 64 State Representative Jason Gearhart was part of a recent childcare related visit and discussion. In conclusion, Reinke provided a brief update relating to ongoing work by Director Jenny Cole of the Learning Tree Childcare Center in Lansing, in addition to making note of an upcoming meeting relating to the Northeast Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund (NEIRHTF).

The meeting moved into the consideration of an update to the County Zoning Map with GIS Coordinator Jon Luchsinger providing an overview of the matter. Luchsinger presented updated zoning maps to the Supervisors for review in addition to discussing trends and specifics since the previous review and approval. Following discussion, the County Zoning Map was approved as presented.
