To the Editor:

In his letter to the editor in the February 25, 2026 edition of this newspaper, Thomas Hill asserts that  “America has become a lawless state”. The assertion is totally false.

He asserts that ICE has been transformed into a “paramilitary” organization “answerable only to Trump”.  He gives no specific evidence to prove this assertion, claiming only that ICE agents “jump out of unmarked cars, stop, assault, arrest, and sometimes kill individuals all without probable cause”.  He fails to give any proof of that assertion and expects the readers to believe it just because he makes the claim. At no time has ICE aver claimed that they have “absolute immunity”.

He also claims that ICE agents are violating the Fourth Amendment and Fifth Amendment without giving any specific examples or proof. He also does not tell us what the final disposition was/is for the 170 citizens who were purportedly held during the first nine months of the Trump second administration.

America has not become a “lawless state” and Mr. Hill knows that. This looks a little bit like TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome).

ICE agents are doing the job they are required to do.  We all, including Mr. Hill, need to support ICE and the immigration policies of this administration which are keeping thousands of illegals from coming into our country and taking jobs away from American citizens who need the employment.

We all need to support our ICE agents and all other government employees who serve our country and keep us safe. God Bless America.
