St. Patrick’s Day Pancake Breakfast to benefit sidewalk project at Allamakee County Fairgrounds ...

The Allamakee County Fair Board will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Pancake Breakfast this Sunday, March 15 from 8 a.m.-12 noon at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Waukon, prior to the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Waukon.

All proceeds from the breakfast event will be designated for the sidewalk project taking place along the south edge of the gravel roadway that runs east and west through the Fairgrounds (area shaded in gray in the left half of the above photo from the bottom left corner [with “From Accessible Parking Lot to...>” text block] to the top near-center of the photo [with “...Fairgrounds Entrance on Allamakee Street”] text block). The sidewalk will connect the city sidewalk that runs along Allamakee Street at the front entrance to the Fairgrounds (near the marquee sign at the front of the Fairgrounds) to the east all the way through the Fairgrounds to the handicapped accessible parking lot on the east edge of the Fairgrounds, next to the rabbit/poultry building. That sidewalk will run in front of all the buildings along that same route, including the foodstands, commercial building, 4-H building, exhibit building, swine building and rabbit/poultry building, connecting to each of those buildings by sidewalk to make a paved access network to all of those buildings and from the front entrance of the Fairgrounds to the back entrance and handicapped accessible parking lot.

The intention of the paved walkway is to provide access to a more family-friendly trek through the Fairgrounds for fairgoers, strollers and wheelchairs. This improvement project will be completed in time for the 2026 Allamakee County Fair scheduled for July 15-19. The materials for the project are being purchased locally, and volunteer labor will be utilized to complete the project. Anyone wishing to make a donation towards this project can do so by attending the St. Patrick’s Day Pancake Breakfast at the Pavilion this Sunday, March 15 from 8 a.m.-12 noon (see the event advertisement printed on Page 24 of this week’s edition of The Standard).
