Our Savior’s Lutheran Church to host Justice and Peace Stations of the Cross Friday

The congregation of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lansing invites the community to take part in a meaningful Good Friday tradition: the Justice and Peace Stations of the Cross, scheduled to be held this year Friday, April 3, beginning at 10 a.m. at the church, located at 480 Diagonal Street in Lansing.

Now in its sixth year, this contemplative prayer walk offers participants an opportunity to reflect on the suffering of Christ alongside the ongoing struggles faced in the world today. The walk begins at the church and moves through the heart of Lansing, making 12 stops along the way for prayer, song, and reflection before concluding near the Mississippi River.

Each station draws connections between Jesus’ journey to the cross and present-day realities such as violence, poverty, environmental challenges, and injustice. Participants are invited to engage not only in remembrance, but in solidarity - bearing witness to the pain of the world and the hope for healing and peace.

“Our faith calls us not only to remember the cross, but to recognize it in the lives of those who suffer today,” says Pastor Laura Gentry. “This walk is a way of prayerfully stepping into that awareness together as a community.”

The outdoor service is open to all, regardless of age or faith background. The route is approximately one mile and takes just over an hour to complete. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and may bring signs that express messages of justice, peace, and compassion.

A freewill offering will be collected to support LIFT (Lansing Iowa Food Trust), helping extend care to neighbors in need.

No registration is required. For more information about the event, including a route map, visit LansingLutherans.org.
