The Waukon boys golf team will have plenty to look forward to for its 2026 season, as more than two dozen young men have reported for early-season duty. Within that double-dozen or more linksters lies even more to be excited about, as a full team’s worth of golfers will be coming back with varsity letterwinning experience from a squad last spring that played to a 17-7 record in dual competition and qualification for the Class 2A District Tournament for the first time in quite some time.
This season’s six varsity veterans are headlined by senior Dylan Stegen, who is a three-time All-Conference honoree and who played to a Class 2A Sectional individual medalist title in leading the golf Tribe to its District Tournament advancement. He will be joined by fellow seniors Trevor Peiffer, who played to his first-ever All-Conference honoring last season, Reid Deeney and Connor Stilwell. The junior pair of Vaughn Stegen and James Stigler round out this season’s list of letterwinning returnees from last spring.
The Indians were scheduled to get this spring’s campaign underway Monday, March 30 with a triangular event at Cresco before hosting their first home event of the season, a Monday, April 6 triangular with South Winneshiek and West Central. The golf Tribe will then play in the Big Rock 18-Hole Invitational at Fayette Thursday, April 9 before playing in the South Winneshiek Invitational Saturday, April 11.
