The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, May 11 to address a full agenda of matters including the discussion and consideration of the Medical Examiner Transport Driver list, consideration of hiring a temporary part-time employee for the Secondary Road Department, and discussion of a work session relating to new security camera access. The meeting was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tom Clark with Supervisors Dennis Keatley and Dan Byrnes present.

During Public Comment, Byrnes made note of the Friends of Yellow River State Forest’s Annual 5K and 10K Trail Run/Walk and Half Marathon held Saturday, May 9 with an additional 5K held Friday, May 8. Byrnes recognized the many volunteers that assisted in making the event a success, in addition to the efforts of Harpers Ferry Fire and Rescue and the Waterville Fire Department.

Following the time allotted for Public Comment, the meeting moved into consideration of hiring a temporary part-time employee. County Auditor Denise Beyer advised that she and Clark have spoken with Jacob Smith relating to a temporary part-time lawn mowing position for the Allamakee County Courthouse grounds in Waukon until a maintenance staff member has returned from medical leave. Mellick noted that Smith would be welcome to assist with lawn mowing at the Public Safety Center if his schedule allows. The Supervisors approved the hiring of Smith on a temporary part-time basis, effective May 5, at a rate of $15 per hour.

The meeting moved into discussion of a work session relating to new security camera access. Beyer, Mellick, the Supervisors and Emergency Management Coordinator Corey Snitker discussed specifics relating to this proposed work session focusing upon new security cameras within the County Courthouse, what areas need video monitoring and which department heads and staff members will be authorized to view footage from cloud-based storage.

Beyer made note of GIS Coordinator Jon Luchsinger’s role in this process and the proposed work session in addition to making note of an area that will need to be out of view for security cameras to maintain confidentiality during in-office absentee voting. The Supervisors agreed to set Thursday, May 21 at 8:30 a.m. as the date and time for the work session.
