Lansing Liberty Motorcycle Rally taking place this Thursday-Sunday with events for rally participants and the general public to take part in
The first-ever Lansing Liberty Motorcycle Rally is scheduled to be held in Lansing and travel throughout the surrounding tri-state area this Thursday-Sunday, June 11–14. In addition to well over 100 motorcycles registered to attend the event, area residents are invited to also take part in events scheduled to take place late this week in conjunction with the rally.
This riverfront rally is designed to bring riders, community, and Main Street together for a four-day celebration. Set against the bluffs and the Mississippi River, this inaugural event will fill downtown with motorcycles, live music, food, drinks, vendors, and small-town American pride, with the opportunity for rally participants from all over to discover what Lansing and the surrounding area have to offer.
Area residents are reminded that in order to accommodate motorcycle parking, South 4th Street between Center Street and Main Street will be closed to traffic during the upcoming Lansing Liberty Motorcycle Rally from Thursday, June 11 at 5 p.m. until Saturday, June 13 at 10 p.m. That section of street will be barricaded off to traffic to allow for the convenient parking of motorcycles throughout the rally event.
The first-time event is scheduled to kick off with a welcome party and registration night this Thursday, June 11 at 6 p.m. at TJ Hunters in downtown Lansing. Friday, June 12 will then begin with a check-in at TJ Hunters from 9-11 a.m. before participants take off on one of four self-guided riding routes designated for the rally event.
The ride routes will take place throughout northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin, with registered riders having access to the mapped ride routes in printed or digital formats. One of those routes includes riding the car ferry across the Mississippi River in order to travel the southwest Wisconsin ride route, but that ferry will not be in operation Thursday, June 11-Friday, June 12 due to the scheduled installment of the center span of the new bridge being constructed at Lansing (see article beginning on the front page of the Wednesday, June 10 edition of The Standard).
Upon returning to Lansing Friday evening, ride participants, and the general public, can take part in any of several live band events scheduled for those Friday evening hours. A Ride N Seek Challenge will also be available to participate in throughout the rally, with prizes available.
In addition to ride routes available Saturday, June 13, Red Barn Campground and Restaurant will also be holding some additional events for riders and the general public that evening. Live music will provide the entertainment and there will be a fireworks display at dark, with other live music options also available in downtown Lansing as well that Saturday night.
At 6 p.m. that evening, Red Barn Campground and Restaurant will partner with the Gustave Kerndt VFW Post 5981 of Lansing to host an American Flag retirement ceremony, properly disposing of worn, faded, or damaged U.S. flags while educating others on proper flag etiquette and honoring those who have served this country. Anyone who has a flag that is no longer fit to fly may bring it with them to the ceremony or drop it off at The Red Barn Campground prior to the Saturday evening ceremony. The flag retirement event is open to the community and all are encouraged to attend to learn about proper flag etiquette, while participating in a patriotic tradition, honoring the symbol of the United States of America, and showing respect for Old Glory and the Veterans who have served this nation.
Sunday, June 14 will offer one final opportunity for a ride along any of the designated routes for the rally. Riders will also have one final opportunity to explore Lansing and the surrounding area, and to make arrangements for a return visit before riding their way back home.
