Rattlesnakes in Allamakee County video program to be presented June 14 and later; Video interview with Veteran Ron Steege June 14 as well

A video program about rattlesnakes produced by the Allamakee County Historical Society will be presented to the public June 14 and again later this summer. The program includes a presentation by Ross Geerdes, Allamakee County Conservation Director about local rattlesnakes, including their range, life cycle, poisonous nature, and cautions for humans interacting with them, and featuring a video appearance by Tim the Timber Rattler.

The video program continues with an interview with Mary Egan of Harpers Ferry, who was bitten by a rattler in 2023 and was hospitalized for 13 days. The video concludes with interviews by county residents Paul Howes, Kathy Howes, and Kathy Renk, all of whom will recount their interactions with the snakes in years past.

The Historical Society will present the video program to the public at the Portside Bar & Supper Club at 125 Jefferson Avenue in Harpers Ferry Sunday, June 14 at 1:30 p.m. There is no admission charge. Mary Egan will be present to answer questions and comment on her experiences.

A video interview with U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam War Veteran Ron Steege will also be presented this Sunday, June 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the Portside Bar & Supper Club. Steege was interviewed by Chuck Bloxham as part of the Veterans History Project of the Allamakee County Veterans Museum. He will also be present at the video interview presentation.

The Driftless Area Education & Visitors Center in Lansing, located at 1944 Columbus Road, will also present the rattlesnakes video to the public at its facility in Lansing at later dates to be announced once they have been determined.
