Kee baseball team sweeps through first four games against three UIC opponents, falls victim to late surge by fifth-rated South Winn

The Kee baseball team came within a game of completing an undefeated weekday schedule in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play at home this past week, with the Hawks’ lone loss in that UIC stretch coming Thursday, June 18 to a team that nobody has beaten yet this season. Kee opened this past week with a sweep of Postville by mercy-rule results of 10-0 in five innings and 11-1 in six innings Monday, June 15 before handling Turkey Valley, 5-1, Tuesday, June 16 and defeating North Fayette Valley by a 12-2 mercy-rule result in six innings Wednesday, June 17. That lone UIC loss of the week came to undefeated and Class 1A fifth-rated South Winneshiek Thursday, June 18 in a game where the Hawks took an early lead but couldn’t hold off the highly-regarded Warriors in suffering an 8-3 defeat. Kee was also scheduled to play two games at Osage Saturday, June 20, with coverage details of those two contests appearing in a future edition of The Standard.
The Hawks were next scheduled to play two varsity games at Turkey Valley Monday, June 22, play junior varsity/varsity dates at New Hampton Wednesday, June 24 and at Clayton Ridge Thursday, June 25, and then play in the Brent Prange Classic hosted by North Polk High School against Alta-Aurelia and Sioux Central Saturday, June 27. They will then play two games at South Winneshiek Monday, June 29 before playing Highland Wednesday, July 1 at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo, the home of the Waterloo Bucks, to wrap up their current regular season schedule.
