WinnMed in Decorah announced at its September Board of Directors meeting that Chief Nursing Officer Kathy Moritz of Lansing will retire November 25 of this year, concluding a distinguished 36-year nursing career and nearly nine years of service as the organization’s Chief Nursing Officer.
Since joining WinnMed’s leadership team, Moritz has played a vital role in advancing patient care, supporting nursing excellence, and strengthening healthcare services for the communities WinnMed serves. Her leadership has helped guide the organization through periods of growth and change while maintaining a steadfast commitment to quality, safety, and compassionate care.
“Kathy’s impact on WinnMed goes far beyond her years of service,” says Steve Slessor, Chief Administrative Officer. “Her down-to-earth personality, positive attitude, and authentic leadership style have made her a trusted mentor, respected leader, and a joy to work with. We are grateful for all she has contributed and wish her the very best in this next chapter.”
Reflecting on her decision, Moritz expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve alongside colleagues dedicated to providing exceptional care.
“Nursing has been more than a profession for me; it has been a calling and a privilege,” says Moritz. “I am deeply grateful for the relationships I have built throughout my career and especially for the opportunity to work with such talented and compassionate caregivers. I leave with immense pride in all we have accomplished together and confidence in the future of healthcare at WinnMed.”
WinnMed will begin discussions regarding Moritz’s replacement and initiate a recruitment process to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.
