Downtown Lansing will come alive with creativity, music, food and family-friendly activities during the second annual Makers on Main, taking place Sunday, September 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, and everyone is encouraged to spend the day exploring downtown, meeting the makers and experiencing everything Lansing has to offer.
Presented by Main Street Lansing, this free community event will feature 38 vendors, two live musical performances, live painting and a Kids’ Creative Corner. Visitors are invited to shop, eat, create and explore while supporting artists, makers, entrepreneurs, food vendors and downtown businesses.
In addition to the Artists & Makers line-up, several Main Street storefronts will also feature special participants throughout the event, and there will also be food and drink vendors. Live music will also be featured throughout the day.
Wisconsin artist Jim Updegraff will create artwork live during the event, giving visitors an opportunity to watch the creative process unfold. Families can also visit the Kids’ Creative Corner, led by Kris Cromwell, for hands-on activities designed especially for young artists and creative minds.
Makers on Main directly supports Main Street Lansing’s mission and vision by bringing people together, strengthening local businesses and creating an experience that encourages residents and visitors to explore downtown.
The event reflects the organization’s vision of “A thriving community where businesses prosper, people connect, and visitors discover the best of Lansing - today and for generations to come.”
“The purpose of Makers on Main is to highlight our amazing downtown storefronts while uplifting entrepreneurs from throughout the region,” shared Jackie Cooper, Executive Director of Main Street Lansing. “Not every small business owner has the opportunity to operate a storefront, so this event gives them a place to share their talents, connect with customers and grow alongside our established businesses.
“After navigating the challenges brought by the Black Hawk Bridge construction, this event is also a celebration of Lansing’s resilience. It is an opportunity to bring people together, support one another and show that our downtown remains strong, creative and full of life.
“We could not make this event possible without the incredible volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to planning it, the generous property owners who allow us to use their spaces and the City of Lansing for allowing us to use the downtown sidewalks. It truly takes a village, and everyone at Main Street Lansing sincerely appreciates the effort, cooperation and support that go into making Makers on Main happen.”
