The second half of the 2026 Iowa high school football regular season featured the second game on the Waukon football team’s Class 2A District 3 schedule and an opportunity to either gain or lose ground in the district standings for play-off qualification, as the Indian grid squad hosted North Fayette Valley (NFV) Friday, September 25. The two teams each entered the ballgame with 2-2 season records but had ended up in opposite directions in their district-openers a week earlier, with a fairly-balanced Waukon offensive attack helping to continue its successful district trend by scoring on seven of its nine possessions to help jump to a 22-0 headstart that further survived a mid-game TigerHawk uprising on the way to a 56-20 Indian victory.
That Tribe offensive balance yielded a 434-266 advantage in total yards for Waukon, with the greatest difference coming through the air, where the Indians launched a 206-71 margin. Although closer on the ground, with just a 228-195 advantage in rushing yards, the grid Tribe’s ground efforts made much more of a difference on the scoreboard at a 30-12 margin there, and Waukon got an initial scoring spark from its special teams play to light its scoreboard fuse.
The Indians are next scheduled to remain at home this Friday, October 2 for their Homecoming game that will feature a match-up of two teams yet to be beaten in Class 2A District 3 teams. Osage will bring an overall undefeated record into the contest, coming off a 21-7 home win over New Hampton this past Friday, September 25 and also owning a 24-19 District 3 win over North Fayette Valley, in addition to non-district wins of 22-14 over Hampton-Dumont, 46-0 over Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and 60-14 over Jesup.
