Home ›Waukon Lions Club offering Iowa KidSight Vision Screenings again ...

Iowa KidSight is dedicated to enhancing the early detection and treatment of vision impairments in young children in Iowa communities through screening and public education. It is a joint project of the Lions Clubs of Iowa and the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Two of the Lions Clubs International global causes are Vision and Youth. These vision screenings address both causes.
The Waukon Lions Club has been doing Iowa KidSight vision screenings for many years and as the club begins to do screenings again this year, club members (some of whom are pictured at right) want to encourage parents to enroll their children in this free and non-invasive screening. The club screens children from ages six months to kindergarten. A special camera is used to take pictures of children’s eyes and those photos are sent to and evaluated by the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa.
If a child does not pass the Iowa KidSight vision screening, it means a potential vision problem was detected. This does not mean the child has a diagnosis - but it does mean further evaluation is needed.
The family will receive a referral packet with the child’s screening results and important next steps.
The Waukon Lions Club screened over 350 children last school year at area schools, Head Starts, daycares and wellness fairs. The club would like to reach as many children as possible again this year.
