Free spaghetti dinner at Lansing UMC Christmas Day

The Lansing United Methodist Church will be holding a free Spaghetti Dinner Christmas Day, Friday, December 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and carry-outs are available. The Lansing United Methodist Church is located at 490 Center Street, Lansing.

Lansing City Council approves Clear Creek Water/Sewer Project, addresses number of other items in regular session

The Lansing City Council met in its regular session Monday night, December 7. After approving the Consent Agenda the Council reviewed four bids presented by Kevin Draves of WHKS Engineering for the planned Clear Creek Water/Sewer Project. The Project, postponed this fall due to an administrative issue at the Federal level, is now scheduled to begin in the spring of 2016 and be completed by August 1.
After discussion, the Council selected the low bid of $265,207 from Skyline Construction of Decorah. Approximately half of the cost of the Project will be paid by the City, and the other half from a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The Council also reviewed and approved a contract amendment with WHKS Engineering for $24,207 for engineering services to include observation and oversight of the project.

Kee High Post Prom hosting Bingo Dec. 13

Kee High Post Prom Committee will host Bingo Sunday, December 13 in the Kee High cafeteria.
Come enjoy a fun evening of games while supporting 2016 Post Prom. Doors open at 4 p.m., and games begin at 4:30 p.m.
Bring a food or household item to be donated to the Allamakee County Food Shelf and play an extra Bingo card free. Door prizes will also be provided.

Christmas Magic in the Park taking place in Harpers Ferry

The Harpers Ferry Boosters, Inc. is sponsoring a “Christmas Magic in the Park” event at Tillinghast Park in Harpers Ferry, Saturday, December 12 from 5-7 p.m. Santa Claus will be present with treats for children, and music and refreshments will be available.
The Christmas Magic lights display will be from November 27 through January 2, 2016 between the hours of 5 and 10 p.m. each evening. A Christmas Tree Decorating Contest will also take place, with any business, individual or group invited to participate. Prizes for first-, second-, and third-place will be awarded.

Lansing Main Street Madness punch card promotion taking place through December 18

Lansing Main Street Matters is  sponsoring the “Main Street Madness” promotion again this year.
Lansing shoppers can pick up a punch card at any of the participating businesses. The cards can then be validated with either punches or stamps in five-dollar increments for purchases made between November 16 and December 18.
Completed cards are then entered into a drawing for one of three prizes. The prizes are $150, $75 and $25 and will be awarded in Lansing Downtown Dollars. Valid entries must include at least three different businesses on each card. Completed cards should be filled out on the reverse with a name and contact number and can be dropped off at any participating Main Street business or at the Main Street Lansing office before 5 p.m. Saturday, December 19.

Winners of Main Street Lansing Scarecrow Contest

The winners of the Main Street Lansing Scarecrow Contest are pictured above (left to right) and include the following: Best Illustration of Theme for the contest theme of “Character from a Children’s Book” (winner of $200 in Lansing Downtown Dollars) - United Methodist Church Sunday School’s entry of “There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly,” located in front of Red Geranium; Funniest Scarecrow (winner of $50 in Lansing Downtown Dollars) - Mad Scientist 4-H group’s entry of the Minion, located in front of Eagle’s Nest; and Scariest Scarecrow (winner of $50 in Lansing Downtown Dollars) - Thornton Manor staff and residents entry of the wolf in granny’s gown from Little Red Riding Hood, located near Kerndt Brothers Community Center. A total of 21 businesses sponsored scarecrows and the grand prize of $200 in Lansing Downtown Dollars. The $50 prizes were donated by Craig White and Gary Kerndt.
