Allamakee County Food Check-Out Week observed by Allamakee Farm Bureau

Now in its 14th year, Food Check-Out Week celebrates America’s safe, wholesome and affordable food supply.  Iowa farm families play a pivotal role in feeding their communities and those around the world. Food Check-Out Week provides an opportunity to reflect on the healthy food options provided by farmers and to appreciate the safety,  wholesomeness and affordability of food produced in Allamakee County and the state of Iowa.
This year's Allamakee County Food Check-Out took place at Fareway in Waukon Thursday, February 23. The Clark Tire Center team of Dawn and Dave Clark challenged the Allamakee County Farm Bureau team of President Matt Emerson and Vice President Dustin Byrnes. The two teams were timed while trying to gather items on their shopping list and beat the other team to the check-out counter.
The two teams gathered two carts full of grocery items totaling $216.75 that were then donated to the Allamakee County Relief Office by Allamakee County Farm Bureau. In addition to President Emerson and Vice President Byrnes, Allamakee County Farm Bureau voting delegate Joel Thorson was also on hand to help steer carts, pack groceries and deliver them to the Relief Office.
