Allamakee Emergency Management to conduct tornado drill Wednesday

Allamakee County Emergency Management will be conducting a tornado drill in accordance with the Statewide Tornado Drill Wednesday, March 26, weather permitting. Allamakee County communities will be sounding sirens for the public to practice their safety plans if a tornado warning should be issued.
The drill will be conducted from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday. A Tornado Watch will be issued at 10 a.m. and a Tornado Warning will go out from the National Weather Service at 10:20 a.m. The National Weather Service will be using Emergency Alert System and NOAA weather radio.
Emergency Management will also be conducting a study with one of the communities as has been done in the past, checking with businesses and public places to see: 1) if they knew of or heard the notification; 2) how they would react with customers and plans; and 3) what can be done to help businesses and the public to be better aware. Should severe weather conditions arise Wednesday, March 26, the drill will not be conducted as scheduled.
Emergency Management Director Chris Dahlstrom also advises members of the public that if they have a weather radio and do not have it activated, they can leave a message on the Emergency Management office telephone answering machine at 563-568-4233 and Dahlstrom will make contact with them to assist in activating that weather radio.
