Area healthcare providers get set for 15th "Have a Heart Day"

The doctors and staffs of Family Chiropractic Associates, Waukon Dental, and Veterans Memorial Hospital are proud to announce that they will be holding "Have a Heart Day" again this year. Area residents are encouraged to participate in the annual Have a Heart Day scheduled by area health care providers for the fifteenth year.
This event is scheduled during the Valentine's season as a community service project to provide services to those in need. The local healthcare providers appreciate the strong support they receive, so in turn look forward to this event each year.
Since Family Chiropractic Associates first brought the idea to Waukon in 1991, the event has grown to include several cities and businesses. The community effort is a source of pride for Waukon and the surrounding areas.

Veterans Memorial Hospital
On Saturday, February 12, Veterans Memorial Hospital will offer a free CPR class for adults age 50 and over in conjunction with the local Have A Heart Day celebration. This free CPR course for all adults age 50 and over will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Large Conference Room on the lower level of Veterans Memorial Hospital.
As adults pass age 50, their chance for experiencing a heart attack increases. The quicker CPR can be administered, the better chance the person has for recovery. This free training teaches individuals age 50 and over the basics of adult CPR. There will be no test given, just CPR training and demonstrations.
Some five million individuals each year receive CPR training by instructors certified by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. The timely application of CPR has been credited with saving thousands of lives each year in the United States.
To prevent a heart attack from occurring, the American Heart Association encourages Americans to control high blood pressure, stop smoking, exercise regularly, and follow an eating plan low in saturated fats and cholesterol.
Veterans Memorial Hospital offers this free CPR class to individuals age 50 and over once per year in conjunction with the local Have A Heart Day celebration.

Waukon Dental
Doctors and staff at Waukon Dental are busy preparing for their version of Have a Heart Day, which will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Waukon Dental office located at 18 First Ave. NW, Waukon. As with previous years, those seeking appointments will receive a complete dental examination, consultation, and necessary cavity detecting x-rays at no charge. Waukon Dental has also expanded this day to include sealants, emergency dental care, or a needed filling.
The goal is to provide services to any interested parties who have not sought recent dental care for whatever reason. Families are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity or alert others they know who could benefit. Unlike many free healthcare days, no financial proof of need is required, but it is requested that patients do not already have Medical Assistance or insurance benefits.
The dental office provides a festive environment for the 19th with the Valentine's theme, drawings, and healthy refreshments throughout the morning. Please call the dental office at 568-4528 for an appointment.
