Area Iowans with disabilities invited to attend State Rally

Wednesday, April 6 is the day designated as “Advocating Change Day” at the Iowa State capital. The day is designed specifically for individuals with disabilities and their families to become skilled at communicating with their state legislators and state elected officials and to attend a rally at the state capital advocating for services for Iowans with disabilities. The Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities is hosting the event.

A chartered bus will be traveling to Des Moines for the day from Northeast Iowa and individuals are invited to participate. The following locations and time for travel are listed as follows:

Waukon (parking lot of Waukon Reception and Banquet Center) depart 5:45 a.m., return 6:30 p.m.; Decorah (municipal parking lot - Heivly/Clariborne St.) depart 6:15 a.m. - return 6 p.m.; Cresco (parking lot Hwy. 9 next to Ace Hardware) depart 6:45 a.m. - return 5:30 p.m.

The bus will accommodate two wheelchairs for a total of 47 passengers and the bus has bathroom facilities. A full bus will be needed to avoid cancellation.

The trip is being sponsored by Allamakee County Central Point of Coordination, Howard County Central Point of Coordination, Winneshiek County Central Point of Coordination, and Allamakee County Arc. The cost of the trip is $10/per person. There will not be any refunds unless the trip is cancelled due to lack of reservations. Lunch is provided at the event by contributing vendors, along with a free T-shirt.
