Baseball season comes to an end

Vs. Kee High

On Tuesday, July 14, the Pirate baseball team traveled to New Albin for their first round district match-up against the Kee Hawks. After losing 31-1 to the Hawks in the first round last year, Postville was hoping to do much better this year.

Kee drew first blood within the first few innings by taking advantage of Pirate mistakes in order to get runs across the plate. Postville stayed calm, though, and kept the Hawks close. Unfortunately, Kee pitcher Tom Kerndt pitched amazingly. He always kept the Pirate hitters on their heels and struck out nearly every batter he faced. Postville only got one hit the entire game, and it came when Kerndt was no longer the pitcher.

The Pirates managed to hang tough throughout the game, though, and forced the Hawks to play a full seven inning game. In the end, though, the Hawks were just too much to handle for the Pirates. The final score read: Kee 10, Postville 0.

The Pirates finished the season with an 8-23 record overall and a 4-16 record in the Upper Iowa Conference. They lose four players to graduation: Josh Lechtenberg, Jason Mueller, Sean Staake, and Kassidy Cook.
