Basketball Hawks suffer back-to-back losses

by Teela Hammell

The Hawks boys basketball team endured a double dose of pain this week when they lost both of their games. Kee's first loss was suffered while playing Turkey Valley. The Trojans ended up winning, 71-51.
The Hawks played an excellent first quarter and kept the score close. However, during the second quarter Kee fell apart. The Hawks only scored two points and had multiple turnovers. The third and fourth quarter went much better than the second, but it was too late, the Trojans had already pulled too far ahead.
Gabe Schultz had 13 points, making him the leading scorer. He was followed by Jordan Duffy, who had 11, and Quin Schultz, who contributed nine.
Justin Johnson led the Hawks defensively, tearing down seven rebounds. Mitch Manning did his part on defense also by ripping down five boards. Duffy dished out five assists, while Dan Mohn put up three blocks.

Kee's second loss occurred on the following Friday when the boys faced Sumner/Fredericksburg. The final score was 48-57.
Jordan Duffy put the Hawks in the lead during the first quarter when he scored the first basket of the game and the first seven of Kee's points. Kee put up a good fight in the first half and by the time the buzzer sounded indicating the end of the second quarter, the Hawks were only down by two points.
Unfortunately, the second half didn't go as smoothly. Kee struggled to attain rebounds over Sumner's two 6'5" posts.
Gabe Schultz led the Hawks offensively once again with 14 points. Jordan Duffy also contributed 13 points while Justin Harris managed nine points. Schultz also led in assists, dishing out four.
Kee's next game is scheduled for Feb. 10 at Spring Grove before the Hawks host North Fayette Feb. 11.
