BEULAH ODEGARD

Beulah Elvina Odegard, 86, of Waukon, died Saturday, July 1, 2000 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church, rural Waterville, with Rev. Ken Kimball and Rev. David Schafer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Martin Funeral home in Waukon.
Beulah Elvina Smedsrud Odegard was born September 13, 1913 to Gilbert and Hannah (Hanson) Smedsrud at their home in Jefferson Township, Allamakee County. She was the youngest of nine children. Beulah attended the Smeby Country School and also Waukon High School. She was confirmed at the Old West Paint Creek Church and accompanied as well as sang in the church choir. Beulah and her brother Melvin played and sand at numerous musical events in the community. On September 27, 1934, she was united in marriage to Raymond Odegard at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. There were six children born to this union. They lived on the home farm in the Waterville area until 1961, then they moved to Arizona for two years, and then returned to Waukon. Beulah was a homemaker and a member of the Old East Paint Creek Ladies Aid. She also served as a 4-H leader for a number of years. She was currently a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its ladies circles. She was an expert cook and baker; specializing in Norwegian cooking and enjoyed crocheting and music. Beulah was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Hannah, two sons, Richard Norman and Allan Raymond, four sister, Jessie Geuder, Mabel Keatley, Alma Kolsrud and Helen Anderson, and four brothers, Alfred, Carl, Melvin and Allan Smedsrud. Survivors include her husband, Raymond of Waukon, a son Gene and wife Connie of DeSoto, WI, three daughters, Elaine and her husband Kent Larson of Ackley, IA, Evonne and her husband Rodney Bloxham of Lansing and Lynn and her husband Mark Ste. Marie of West Salem, WI, eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Todd Larson, Thor Larson, Julie Burington, Terri Peyton, Sheri Jackson, Jodi Manson, Kirstie Poppe and Adam Odegard. Honorary casket bearers were Abraham and Isaiah Odegard, Dane, Eric and Krissa Larson, Levi Poppe, Beth and Jacob Burington, Emily and Alex Jackson and Jonah and Hannah Manson.
