Black Hawk Bridge closed until further notice

The Black Hawk Bridge, located at the intersection of Iowa Highway 26 and Wisconsin Highway 82 in Lansing, will be closed until further notice following a Wednesday, August 17 inspection. Upon inspection of the bridge's piers and supporting structure, a crack was discovered under the bridge deck, resulting in an immediate closure of the bridge.
Bridge crews have been notified, and a detailed assessment of the bridge's structure will ensue. Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation are implementing detours for motorists that wish to cross the Mississippi River. Area officials are recommending motorists who need to cross the Mississippi River to use US Highway 18 (between Prairie du Chien, WI and Marquette) or US Highways 14/61 or Interstate 90 (between La Crescent, MN and La Crosse, WI).
