Brink defeats Cunningham in Waukon City Council At-Large run-off election

The Allamakee County Auditor's Office is reporting a sizable victory for challenger Darrold Brink in the Tuesday, December 3 run-off election for the Waukon City Council At-Large seat. According to preliminary results from Tuesday's run-off, Brink garnered 471 votes to just 264 votes for Joe Cunningham, the incumbent candidate who was seeking his third four-year term in the At-Large seat. The reported vote totals are unofficial until the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors canvass the election results.

Brink was initially a write-in candidate in the November 5 general election, and had initially finished behind Cunningham in those November 5 vote totals, 311-299. However, Waukon City Code requires candidates in such elections to receive a simple majority (50% plus one) of the vote totals, which neither Cunningham nor Brink did, resulting in the December 3 run-off election.
