CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION CLASSES BEGIN JULY 3 AT VMH

Veterans Memorial Hospital will begin its next four-week session of Prepared Childbirth Education classes (formerly called Lamaze) on Monday, July 3, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Hospital. The class will meet at the same time for four consecutive Mondays.
During the Prepared Childbirth Classes, the instructors concentrate on labor and delivery and practicing the relaxation and breathing techniques. Other education issues on pregnancy and exercise, nutrition during pregnancy, medications available during delivery and care of the new baby are also discussed. In addition, infant CPR is also taught during the four-week session.
The reason the name of the class has been changed from Lamaze to Prepared Childbirth Education is due to the fact this course is much more comprehensive and teaches not only the Lamaze childbirth practices, but also the specifics of child care once the newborn has arrived.
Any expectant individuals in their last three months of pregnancy is invited to join the course at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Preregistration is necessary, as seats are limited. Contact Machelle Bulman, RN, or Cathy Larson, LPN, at 568-3411 to register.
Couples who have had Lamaze previously, but feel they need a refresher course before delivering their next baby should contact Machelle Bulman, RN. The next Prepared Childbirth Education Refresher Course will be held on July 11 at 7 p.m.
