Corps of Engineers provides navigation statistics for 2004 season for Lock and Dam 9

Exactly 6,336 vessels and 13,256,894 tons of cargo passed through Lock and Dam 9, located near Lynxville, WI, during the 2004 navigation season from March 15-Dec. 6. The MV Coral Dawn was the last tow to pass through at 3:44 a.m., Dec. 6.
Of these vessels, 1,143 were commercial, 5,419 were recreational and 74 were of the other category, such as government watercraft. This number marks a decrease in vessels from 2003, where 7,276 craft passed through Lock and Dam 9 - 1,488 of them commercial, 5,715 of them recreational and 73 other. In 2003, the amount of commodities transported through Lock and Dam 9 was 17,352,121 tons.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, constructed Lock and Dam 9 in 1937 and maintains it to this day. A major rehabilitation of this lock and dam started in 1989 and is scheduled for completion at some point this year.
