Curtis Huffman

Curtis M. Huffman, age 77, of New Hampton, Iowa, died Monday, February 7, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton, of natural causes. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, February 10 at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center, New Hampton, with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating the mass. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton, was in charge of arrangements.
Curt was born November 9, 1927, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of John H. and Mabel (Dougherty) Huffman. He attended school in Rossville and was a 1944 graduate of Waukon High School. On October 8, 1945, Curt enlisted in the US Navy where he received a World War II Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged November 8, 1948.
On August 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to Jeneen Austad of Decorah at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton. The couple became a family after the adoption of their two daughters, Kari and Kathi.
Curt worked as a service man for Orkin Extermination for 18 years. He then became a partner in Eschweiler TV until 1978, when he became a hardware manager at the New Hampton Farmers Coop. He retired in 1993. While retired, Curt began working at the New Hampton Library until 2001. He enjoyed golfing and crossword puzzles, but the time he spent with his two granddaughters were the moments he treasured.
Curt is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jeneen; two daughters, Kari Huffman of New Hampton and Kathi (Jeff) Johnston of New Hampton; two granddaughters, Kennedy Huffman and Sheridan Johnston; one brother, Cletus (Coila) Huffman of Oelwein; three sisters, Lucille Hanson of Postville, Maxine (James) Campbell of Waukon, and Alice (John) Eschweiler of New Hampton; and one sister-in-law, Rosemary Huffman of New Hampton.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Creighton, LeRoy, and Ray Huffman.
