Donation to Sheriff's Office allows for purchase of thermal imaging camera

The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office has received a $2,250 donation from the family of Don Angel of Waukon. This monetary donation was used to purchase a forward looking infrared (FLIR) thermal imaging camera. The purchase of this camera will be a valuable resource to first responders for search and rescue operations under adverse conditions. Pictured at right is Audrey Angel, wife of the late Don Angel, holding the camera. The FLIR thermal imaging camera is a handheld, portable unit that forms a visible image by using infrared radiation. The image shown within the camera displays visible heat sources as a white hot subject, black hot subject or red hot subject depending upon the setting chosen by the operator. The FLIR model purchased has a range of approximately 500 yards on a man-sized subject or approximately 900 yards on a motor vehicle. The camera may be used in total darkness or through dense fog, day or night. The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office wishes to express its appreciation to the Angel family for its generous donation to the citizens of Allamakee County. Submitted photo.
