Edward H. Boske

Funeral services for Edward Boske were held Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church at LaCrescent, Minnesota. The Reverends Jim Arends and Michael Woods officiated. Burial was in the Prince of Peace Cemetery, rural, LaCrescent with Military Honors by the American Legion Post No. 595.
Edward Henry Boske was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 29, 1924, to John and Mildred (Marchinke) Boske. He passed away Friday, January 21, 2005, in the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 22 days.
He was married to Gwendolyn Rekow on April 28, 1945, in Chicago. Ed graduated from Tilden Technology High School in Chicago. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served during World War II. After his discharge from the military he was employed as a salesman for various companies, retiring in 1985 from Smith, Kline and French, having served as a pharmaceutical representative for 27 years. His working career included employment by Clean Towel Company in Dubuque, Iowa, Waters Dairy in Postville, Iowa, and John Hancock Life Insurance Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Ed and Gwen moved to LaCrescent in December of 1961. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and walking for exercise around the town of LaCresent. A man who loved his community, he was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and the Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 in LaCrescent. Ed was also an active member of the LaCrescent Lions Club. He had served as Club president from 1981 to 1982, Zone Chairman from 1983 to 1984, and District Governor from 1985 to 1986. In 2003, Ed was honored by Lions Club International with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen, two daughters, Donna (William) Brady of Galesville, WI, and Debra (Donald) Trnka, Minnewaukan, ND, two sons, Daniel (Sue) Boske, Hutchinson, MN, and Douglas (Lisa) Boske, LaCrescent; nine grandchildren, William (Krista) Brady, Jon (Nicolle) Brady, Penny (Scott) Stuber, Nicole Porkornowski, Casey (Jeff) Narum, Jill Self, Dustin Boske, Dalton Boske, and Jacob Davis; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, John (Sharon) Boske, Channahon, IL; two brothers-in-law, Erwin Klug, Elkhorn, WI, and Leigh (Gwen) Rekow, Postville, IA, three sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Stanley) Schroeder, and Karen (David) Schutte, all of Postville, IA, and Sherrill (Leslie) Heckman, Mountain Home, AR, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Shirley Klug.
