Effigy Mounds to host "Owl Prowl" Saturday

Explore the life of one of nature's most fascinating creatures by joining Effigy Mounds National Monument staff for an "Owl Prowl" this Saturday, Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
Along the way, participants will discover the many intriguing and unique adaptations owls use to survive. Visitors will have the opportunity to try to call great-horned, barred and screech owls during the evening.
"I want to leave every visitor with one skill they can use to amaze their friends; everyone who comes to this program will leave with the ability to imitate a barred owl," said Park Ranger Abbey Harkrader.
This hike is appropriate for visitors of all ages and hiking abilities. Participants should rneet at the visitor center, and dress appropriately for hiking and the weather. Flashlights are recommended, as the hike is scheduled to start just after sunset.
For more information on the hike and other upcoming events at the monument, call the visitor center at (563)873-3491. Effigy Mounds National Monument's visitor center is located three miles north of Marquette and 17 miles south of Waukon on Highway 76. This hike is free to the public.
