Ella B. Kirkeby

Ella B. Kirkeby, 93, of Decorah, died April 30, 2000, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Funeral services were held May 3 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah under the direction of Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen. Burial was in Pontoppidan Cemetery, rural Decorah.
Ella was born Sept. 30, 1906, in Union Prairie Township, the daughter of Elling and Bertha Skaim Vangen. She attended area rural schools. On Jan. 30, 1930, Bertha married Henry M. Kirkeby at Pontoppidan Lutheran parsonage. The couple were residents of Waukon until 1963, upon which they moved to the Decorah area. Here, they were members of First Lutheran Church. Henry died Dec. 21, 1981.
Preceding Bertha in death are her parents; her husband, Henry; a daughter, Delores; a daughter-in-law, Linda Kirkeby; sisters Ida Halverson and Minnie Ford; brothers Pete, Edgar and Adolph Vangen; and two additional brothers and one sister, all dying in infancy.
Survivors include three sons, Everett (Kathryn) Kirkeby, Waukon, and Harlan (Louise) and Wayne Kirkeby, all of Decorah; eight grandchildren, Bill Kirkeby, Waukon, Rich Kirkeby, Johnston, Cindy Kirkeby, Waukon, Mark (Brenda) Kirkeby, Frankville, Danny (Regina) Kirkeby, Decorah, Kara (Owen) Wilkins, Bartlett, IL, David Kirkeby, Gilbert, AZ, and Eric Kirkeby, Decorah; and nine great-grandchildren, Ben, Alex, Jennifer, Mindy, Bradlye, Morgan, Dustin, Lacy and Devon.
Honorary pallbearers were Cindy Kirkeby, Kara Wilkins, Brenda Kirkeby, Regina Kirkeby and Owen Wilkins. Pallbearers were Bill, Rich, Mark, Danny, David and Eric Kirkeby.
Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah assisted the family.
