Erwin “Erv” Deters

Erwin “Erv” A. Deters, 84 of Eitzen, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday April 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, was assisting the family with arrangements.
Erv was born October 3, 1920, in Eitzen to Franklin H. and Rosa (Franzen) Deters. He married Rose Marie Privet June 1, 1944, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Caledonia.
Erv farmed the family farm in Eitzen. He was a volunteer fireman in Eitzen for 16 years and he was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. He enjoyed baseball and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie of Eitzen; six children, LeRoy (Cathy) Deters of Muscatine, Iowa, Bernadette Baley of Sparta, Wis., Carlene (Ken) Denton on Sparta, Rosine (Mac) Macomber of Caledonia, Jerry (Sally) Deters of Ames, Iowa, and Renee (Rich) Orth of New Haven, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Roy, Fremont, Edgar, and Earl (in infancy).
