•Five Years Ago

•Hazel Stee, who has been a news correspondent for Postville since 1958, celebrated her 90th birthday on July 1 and was honored at an open house on July 11. She has been gathering news for the City of Castalia for the Postville, Decorah, Calmar and Ossian papers for 46 years.

•Rachel Anderson, daughter of Bruce and JoDee Anderson, has been named to the Board of Director of Habitat for Humanity. Currently, she is helping to build a home in Calmar.

•Heather McMullan has been selected to participate in the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D. C. from July 26 through August 5.

•Ten Years Ago

•Members of Club of the Hour planted a tree in memory of long-time member Kathryn (Kass) Waters at the Postville Public Library. Waters who was an avid reader and former member of the Library Board of Directors died in 1998. Club members who participated in the planting were Donna Frieden, Norma Kerr, Mary Ellen Day, Laura Roffman, Becky Fritz, Norma Sander and librarian Darlene Schutte.

Debra Dean, daughter of John and Sharon Dean, was the recipient of the Harriet E. Mott Award at the Alumni Banquet. The Award was presented to Dean by Jayne (Rose) Dickens who received the Award in 1974.

•The Pirate baseball team went 4-0 week and were lead by Matt Armentrout, Brent Grinna, Brock Reed and Anthony Everman.

•Twenty-Five Years Ago

•Helen Gray, an employee of Postville State Bank for nearly 40 years, is retiring this week. She started at the bank on September 1, 1944 and retires on July 10.

•Barb Lenth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elden Lenth, was on the first place live animal evaluation team at the 1984 Junior Hereford Association Silver Cup Classic in Winterset on June 28.

•Mr. and Mrs. Sylvan Taylor will be celebrating their 25 wedding anniversary with an open house on July 15.

•Fifty Years Ago

•Emil Schultz purchased the building in which his tavern is now located from Mrs. Cynthia Baltz according to C. F. Lammert, broker.

•Doris Benjegerdes has recently been employed by the REA office.

•The new home of Gerald Guyer has been staked out on East Greene Street and work will begin soon.
