•Five Years ago

•Several area residents were spotted mowing their lawns over the weekend as warm weather has caused the grass to green and grow. During the week of March 27-April 2 the high temperatures ranged from 68-72 degrees.

•Mark Mueller was named most valuable and most dedicated Pirate wrestler at the annual banquet held recently. Chad Matherly was chosen as most improved wrestler.

•Tim and Melanie Bauch were named Cub Scouters of the Year for the Dellaykee District.

•Ten Years ago

•The City Council held a special meeting with members of the industries and public on Monday evening for the purpose of public input on the question of annexation.

•Ralph and Lucille Hanson are closing their variety store on Lawler Street after 31 years in business. Their last day of business will be April 7.

•Earning straight A’s for the third quarter were Andrea Foels, grade 9; Sara Conway, Natalie Opheim, Amber Schroeder and Jerem White, grade 10; Stacy Rhoades and Sara White, grade 11 and Amy Rechsteiner and Kara Schultz, grade 12.

•Twenty-five Years ago

•Three baby girls, all cousins were recently baptized in the 99 year-old dress originally belonging to their great-grandmother Mrs. William Everman. Mrs. Everman was baptized in the dress in 1881 while Allison Schultz, Amber Radloff and Gretchen Chamberlain were baptized within the past few months.

•LuAnn Schutte, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Schutte of Castalia, was named Miss Ossian Saturday, March 22. Schutte is a sophomore at Iowa State University.

•Fifty Years ago

•The Postville Drum and Bugle Corps is now organized and practice sessions are being followed every Monday night.

•Miss Nancy Roberts, daughter of Mrs. H. E. Roberts, arrived home Friday from Lindenwood College of St. Charles, Missouri to spend the spring vacation with her mother.

•The voters in the Farmersburg/Monona School District turned down a bond issue of $495,000 to construct a new school building in a special vote held in the district last Thursday.
