Freshman girls win three of four

Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Waukon freshman girls basketball team suffered a 43-35 loss at the hands of Lansing.
Peyton Wacker led the Indian offense with ten points while Rachel Berns added eight. Kati Nolting and Brianne Sivesind chipped in four points each, Kayla Schellhammer added three, and Brianne Bjerke, Allison Eickelberg, and Lindsay Drips each contributed two.
Berns pulled down seven rebounds and Bjerke grabbed four.
Defensively, Bjerke snagged five steals and Eickelberg and Wacker each secured three. Sivesind also denied a Hawk shot.
Nolting passed out two assists in the loss.

Waukon got back in winning form Monday, Jan. 24, scoring a 49-41 victory at Crestwood.
Wacker and Eickelberg poured in nine points apiece and Berns added eight. Haley Jeppson scored six and Sivesind added five. Schellhammer chipped in three tallies and Bjerke and Lisa Dahlstrom ended the night with two each. Nolting landed a free throw.

Friday, Jan. 28, the Indians slid by New Hampton with a 38-36 win.
Wacker's 12 points led the Tribe while Bjerke added six. Berns had five points in the win and Eickelberg and Jeppson each scored four. Nolting poured in three points and Sivesind and Erika Schwartzhoff each ended the night with two points.
Bjerke ripped down a team-high seven rebounds and Nolting and Berns each grabbed six.
On the defensive end, Wacker had six steals and Berns and Bjerke each stopped a Chickasaw shot.
Wacker passed out three assists and Bjerke and Nolting registered two each.

The Tribe extended its win streak through three games Monday, Jan. 31 with a 43-36 win at Oelwein.
Wacker dumped in ten points while Bjerke and Berns added eight each. Nolting and Sivesind finished with four points, Schwartzhoff added three, and Drips, Jeppson, and Schellhammer each had two.
Bjerke reeled in nine rebounds and Nolting had five.
Berns' four steals led the defense while Sivesind and Wacker added three each.
Nolting blocked a pair of shots and Bjerke denied another.
Sivesind dished out four assists and Eickelberg and Wacker had three each.
