Gleanings from DeSoto

Our sympathy is extended to the family of Michael Paggi who passed away last week. He was living in the former Jim Paggi house in Victory. Funeral services for Michael Paggi was ot Thoreson’s on Tuesday, with burial in Victory cemetery.

On Bill Roger’s death, I wish to express my sympathy to Janet Rogers and her family also. I have known Janet for a good many years.

Well, did March come in like a lion or lamb. In my opinion, like a lion because the first five days of March certainly haven’t been very nice. Yes, some days have been sunshiny, but step out the door and feel the cold air hit you!

People will be very busy this week attending the Hamburg Insurance meeting on Wednesday, the Redmound Store’s Open House on Thursday and then several days at Nelson’s spring fair. One thing they do break the monotony of winter. Pastor Libby will be away for a few days this week for furthering her education. On March 7th, at the DeSoto High School, there was a free seminar, open to the public entitled “Healthy Kids Build Healthy Communities”. Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, Viroqua Area Schools Nutritionist Jennifer Walters and Matt Hendricks, a therapist from Viroqua Family and Children’s Center provided the program.

We want to congratulate Kitty Strand on being chosen the 2005 Wisconsin All-State Scholars nominee.

The DeSoto High School Band left on Tuesday, March 15 to spend a few days at a musical clinic at the Loyola University in New Orleans and returned on Sunday, March 20. Thirty-six band members, eleven chaperones and Mr. Monroe will be taking in some extra activities as well — Dixie and Jazz Cruise, touring a real plantation and a night at the jazz dinner theater. They have worked on this trip for 2 years, and the dream is being finalized! They have been working very hard for their district music contests that will be coming up in April.

The Forensic Team has been very busy also. In February they placed second when they performed at the University of Wisconsin at Platteville. There were at least ten students participating in this event, John Maussoti, Nicole Rasmusson, Brittany Copper, Rachel Oppreicht, Jordan Tully, Melissa and Lexie Fladhammer, Zach McCullick.

The DeSoto Youth will be serving breakfast following the 8:30 worship service on March 27 at the DeSoto Lutheran Church. Next Sunday at Sugar Creek, the youth will be able to attend the “Walk with Jesus — Manger to Cross” presentation, starting at 6:00 p.m.

Happy Belated St. Patrick’s Day and just a few more days and Easter will be here. I do hope you have a happy and blessed Easter.
