Grotegut, Decorah swimmers finish second at pair of meets

Waukon sophomore Bryce Grotegut had a successful-filled week competing for the Decorah-North Winn swim team.
Thursday, Jan. 27, the Vikings traveled to Waterloo East for a four-team meet. Linn-Mar won the event with 477 points. Decorah was second with 301, Cedar Rapids Xavier was third with 298, and East recorded 154 points.
Individually, Grotegut was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.48 and fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.64.
Grotegut joined with Weston Hageman, Ben Shupp, and Taylor Nelson to finish second in the 400 free relay in 3:50.98 and teamed with Trevor Sanders, Andrew Pellett, and John Schissel to place sixth in the 200 free relay in 1:54.17.
Saturday, Jan. 29, Decorah hosted the North Central Swim Conference event. Grinnell/BGM won with 129 points and Decorah was second with 105. Vinton-Shellsburg rounded out the standings with 72.
Grotegut's top finish of the day came in the 400 free relay. Shupp, Hageman, and Nelson combined talents with the Waukon swimmer to finish second in 3:42.64.
Grotegut's 200 free relay team of Pellett, Schissel, and Kurt Tappe were third in 1:46.74 and his 200 medley relay squad of Ethan Bjelland, Sam Axmear, and Schissel, took fourth in 2:08.99.
Grotegut was fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.83.
