Janice Thorson announces her candidacy for office of Allamakee County Auditor

Janice Thorson of Dorchester has announced her candidacy for Allamakee County Auditor. She is the daughter of Lennie and Sherry (Fink) Mellick and a lifetime resident of Allamakee County, growing up in New Albin.
Thorson graduated from Kee High School in 1990. She married Joel Thorson, son of Owen “Ole” and Carol Thorson, and they have four children, Cassie, Josh, Callie and Jace, and live on the family farm in rural Dorchester.
Thorson is currently working at Hartig Drug in Waukon as a pharmacy technician, and for 10 years worked for ABLE in Caledonia, MN, which is an agency similar to the local TASC or Mosaic agencies. At ABLE, she supervised staff, provided county and state governments with financial data, worked with budgets, and planned and implemented staff training.
A member of the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, Thorson has taught Sunday School, served on the Youth Education Committee and worked with Luther League. “My family, my church and my community are very important to me so when asked to volunteer, I am more than willing. Having a strong work ethic, I can manage a number of tasks at one time, which is a skill definitely needed by the Auditor. I’ve been told I am a person you can count on to be a leader, work with a positive and friendly attitude, and get the job done conscientiously,” explained Thorson. “As Auditor, I will work diligently to serve the citizens of Allamakee County with respect and trust.”
Thorson has served on the Allamakee County Dairy Board, been involved with the Dairy Ambassadors, and helped with their monthly budgets. She also is an avid supporter of athletic and musical events in the Allamakee Community School District.
Thorson will be running unopposed as a Democrat in the June 5 primary election.
