Jason Meyer announces candidacy for Allamakee County Supervisor

Jason Meyer, Postville, has formally announced his candidacy for a seat on the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors. One of the three seats on the Board, the seat currently held by Lennie Burke, will have its term expiring at the end of this year. In a June 14 special election last year, Burke was returned to the Board to fill out that term following the unexpected death of Supervisor Cloy Kuhse. Meyer will be seeking the Republican nomination during the June 5 primary election.
Meyer, who grew up in Postville and graduated from Dr. John R. Mott High School in 1999, took ownership of the Postville Herald newspaper in the fall of 2009. In addition to the Herald, Meyer has started the Tribune newspaper in Monona.
Involved in publishing since 2006, Meyer returned to Allamakee County in December of 2007 as the Sports Editor at The Standard in Waukon, before taking the position of Editor at the Clayton County Register in Elkader, and finally becoming the Publisher of the Herald. Currently, Meyer is a City Councilor in Postville, as well as the Adjutant of the Arthur F. Brandt American Legion Post #518.
“I have greatly enjoyed representing the citizens of Postville on the City Council, and it would be an honor to represent them, along with all the citizens of this county, as their Supervisor,” said Meyer. “I believe business ownership, my time in the military, and these last two years I’ve been a city councilor in Postville have provided me with experiences that will translate well into a county-level leadership role. I’m looking forward to getting to know more of the residents of Allamakee during this upcoming campaign season, and welcome all questions, comments, and suggestions anyone may have.”
