JV girls march past Kee, 57-40

Friday, Feb. 4, the junior varsity girls basketball squad traveled to Lansing to take on Kee High. The Indians handed the host Hawks a 57-40 nonconference loss.
Waukon jumped to a 35-13 lead by halftime, but the Hawks surged back, outscoring the Tribe 17-9 in the third. That, however, was as close as Kee could get as they suffered a 57-40 loss.
Coach Dave Schoeberlein mentioned, "We started out really tough. Our pressure caused a number of turnovers which really hurt them. But, we hurt ourselves with to many fouls. We relaxed towards the end of the third quarter and allowed Kee to come back on us some but we responded and stopped the run."
Alex Langland had a double-double with 10 points and 11 steals. She also had one blocked shot and a pair of assists.
Lynsey Mellick collected 13 points and Karisa Sickels had 12.
Betsy Farley, Sarah Hammel, Jenny Hover, and Sickels each had three boards.
Sarah Hammel and Leanna Hammel each grabbed four steals.
Leanna Hammel registered a pair of assists.
