Koinonia Farms Mission Trip Representatives
Speaking at the Women's Lenten breakfast Thursday, Feb. 24 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon will be a representation of an area ecumenical group that took a mission trip to Koinonia Farms in Americus, GA in the spring of 2004.
Koinonia Farms is best known as being the birthplace of Habitat for Humanity. Today it is an operating pecan farm that serves as a "demonstration plot for the Kingdom of God" - a place where people of all races, ages and socio-economic status can live their faith on a daily basis.
Besides providing employment opportunities and low-income housing ownership, Koinonia has many avenues of outreach, including an afterschool program and a senior citizen center. The group also attended a Sunday School class led by former President Jimmy Carter.
Making the week-long trip last year were Keith and Pat Selberg, Nona Sawyer, Marge Harris, Deb Thorstenson, Betty DeBuhr, and Linda DeBuhr, all from Waukon; and Dean and Grace Bulman of Eitzen, MN.
