Korean War Veterans Armistice Day Celebration planned for July 28

Plans are underway for an Allamakee County Korean War Veterans Armistice Day Celebration scheduled for Saturday, July 28 at the Waukon City Park by the Allamakee County Veterans Honoring Committee. The event will take place at 1 p.m. at the shelter house near the ball diamond and will honor both living and deceased veterans from Allamakee County who served during the Korean War era.
This year marks the 63rd anniversary of the signing of the Korean War Truce and the third year of the Presidential Proclamation of National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day. President Barack Obama proclaimed July 27, 2010 as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day.
The event will feature a program honoring Korean War veterans from Allamakee County, including the presentation of an engraved plaque to veterans or their families. Family members are asked to bring a photo of any deceased veteran being honored. Those planning to attend the event are asked to bring flags to fly during the ceremony and to also bring their own chairs for seating.
