Lansing Mayor Don Peters resigns

Lansing Mayor Don Peters unexpectedly resigned this past week, sending a brief letter of resignation to the City Clerk stating simply that his resignation would be effective June 26 at midnight. Peters did not offer an explanation for his resignation in the letter and has been unavailable for comment prior to publication of this week’s edition of The Standard.
The Lansing City Council was expected to discuss the resignation at its regular meeting Monday, July 2, coverage of which will not appear in this publication until the July 11 issue due to an early print deadline resulting from the Fourth of July holiday this week. Mayor Pro-tem Joe Strobel will serve as Lansing’s Mayor for the time being.
