LELA SCHNUELLE

Funeral services for Lela Schnuelle were held July 13, 2000, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Reverend Robert Hupp officiated. Frances Fitzpatrick served as organist with special readings by Candace Benham and Chad Schnuelle. Burial was in the Monona Cemetery, Monona.
Lela Ida Henrietta Schnuelle, the daughter of William Harnack and Anna (Fischer) Harnack, was born October 10, 1910, in Froelich. She passed away July 10, 2000, in Palmer Lutheran Health Center of West Union. She had reached the age of 89 years and nine months.
Lela was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended the country school near her home.
On November 28, 1935, Lela was married to William Schnuelle in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. To this union five children were born. The family lived on a farm approximately five miles northwest of Postville. Following the death of her husband, William, Lela moved to an apartment in Postville. She became a resident of the Oneota Care Center in Decorah, and then the Good Samaritan Center in West Union.
Lela was a good mother and her children remember her as always being there for them, especially when they were ill. Her family was important to her and she enjoyed having them come to visit. Her hobbies were taking care of her flowers, painting, and she loved to put puzzles together.
Her children and grandchildren will especially remember their grandmother for her apple cream pies and homemade rice pudding with raisins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, who died Oct. 26, 1986; a grandson, Travis William Schnuelle; a sister. Laura Bundrick; and a brother, Arthur Harnack.
Surviving are her children: Genevieve (Delfred) Milbrandt, Waucoma, Georgia (Dale) Sowers, of New Hope, MN, Gene (Wanda) Schnuelle, Postville, Marjorie (Al) Spilde, New Hope, MN, and Junior (Annette) Schnuelle, Blair, NE; thirteen grandchildren, including Susan (Roy) Schultz, Ramona (Gene) Rubendall, Yvette (William "Bill") Plotner, Leone (Tim) Johnson, Sandra (David) Knight, Warren (Michelle) Sowers, Linda (Daniel) Lockwood, Cindy (Richard) Warren, David (Susan) Spilde, Christopher Schnuelle, Andrea Schnuelle, Chad (Diana) Schnuelle, andCandace (Kyle) Benham; one step-grandchild, Arny Green; and two sisters-in-law, Irene (Art) Harnack and Marie (Elmer) Ihde.
Also surviving are 20 great grandchildren: (Genevieve and Delfred Milbrandt): Kerry Schultz, Sarah Schultz, Niki Rubendall, Tabitha Rubendall, Michelle Plotner and Timothy Johnson; (Georgia and Dale Sowers): Sarah Knight, Thomas Knight, Isaac Sowers, Logan Sowers, Caleb Lockwood, Benjamin Lockwood; (Gene and Wanda Schnuelle): Salina Green; (Marjorie and Al Spilde): Michael Warren, Matthew Warren, Katie Warren, Theodore Spilde, Timothy Spilde, Laura Spilde; (Junior and Annette Schnuelle): Taressa Lela Benham, Taiton Kyle Benham, and two step great grandchildren, Danielle Turner and Bradley Turner.
Casketbearers were Warren Sowers, David Spilde, Chad Schnuelle, Christopher Schnuelle, Roy Schultz and David Knight. Honorary Casketbearers included Gene Rubendall, William Plotner, Richard Warren, Tim Johnson, Daniel Lockwood and Kyle Benham.
The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
