LEONARD STOCK

Leonard "L.R." Stock, 86, of Waukon, died July 19 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief illness. Memorial services were held July 24 at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Leonard was born Aug. 27, 1913, on the family farm in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County. His parents were Edward and Wilhelmina (Fiet) Stock. He attended Ludlow #5 rural elementary school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1931. Following graduation, he worked as a bookkeeper at Ludlow Dairy. In 1933, he moved to Waukon, serving as assistant Allamakee County Treasurer from 1933 to 1940. On May 18, 1937, he married Lois Caroline Bollman on the Stock family farm. Leonard was a hardware dealer and from 1940 to 1955, he operated Stock Hardware Store on West Main Street in Waukon. He sold Buick automobiles from 1956 to 1959 before operating Peterson Bros. Hardware in Waukon from 1962-1978. He was also involved with building the sales barn in Waukon.
Leonard was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge, and was a charter member and first president of the Waukon Jaycees. He had his private pilots license and enjoyed flying for many years. He was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeyes in football and basketball.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; and his sister, Gertrude Hansmeier. Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Jim) Matter, Fergus Falls, MN; two sons, Wayne (Jill), New Albany, IN, and Don (Cheri), Carona, Switzerland; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Robert O. (Marion) Stock of Waukon.
Honorary casketbearers were Carl Christenson, Dick Elliott, Dave Hogendorn, Reuben Hager, Dick Loven and Walter Winkie.
